Noteflight
Noteflight is a kind of "social media" for notated music. One can compare Noteflight to a notation software, the only difference being that it is online and free. The beautiful thing about this website is not only that one can notate multiple staffs and chords but also audio play back what one has written. Students will be able to notate and submit projects and/or assignments and share them on this website either publicly or privately. Music Tech Teacher Music Tech Teacher is one of my personal favorite educational websites. This website offers everything, from lesson plans to worksheets to games to books and other amazing resources. Music Tech Teacher can be used for students and for teachers who need more info or activity ideas for new lesson activities. MusicTheory.net Like many of these websites, musictheory.net also hosts a purchasable app for your smartphone. However, their online website also offers a significant amount of free lessons and exercises. In the exercise tab the option of doing ear training exercises is extremely helpful. Students will be able to train their recognition of intervals, scales and chords without spending a penny. Music Theory Pro I first learned of Music Theory Pro from a friend for a downloadable smartphone app. The app features theory education and ear training exercises. The free website offers educational videos from learning note names all the way to chords and scales. The videos are easy to understand with helpful animation. Music Theory Pro is a great way for students to get extra recourses and on any questions about music theory. Hooktheory Create a Song Hooktheory is known for their theory book that one can purchase. Their website allows you to experience a free and educational way to write music. One can choose key/time signature, adjust tempo and type in the note that should be played on a particular beat. The most interesting thing about this music creation website is that one can select the chord that should be played not only by chord symbol but also roman numeral. This feature can introduce the concept of analyzing music through a easy and entertaining method. |
Vic Firth Education
This website is a "must know" for drummers. No matter if one plays with Vic Firth sticks or not, one cannot deny that the education page on their main website is nothing short of phenomenal. There is a plethora of lessons for the beginner to advanced drummers. Using this resource, the teacher can help expand a students understanding by introducing the same material presented by different drummers. This can help give multiple different viewpoints on one subject. Don't forget there is an amazing FREE app for your phone too! Stephen Taylor YouTube This website was a big part of my independent instrumental education. Stephen Taylor does a phenomena job of teaching fills, technique and grooves in a fun and educational manor without the need of a 30min videos. More than half of the time dedicated instrumentalists learn new material without the instructors help. Students can use his videos as a resource to learn independently. iNudge Creating music online can either be tedious or entertaining. This simple "pattern matrix sequencer" is without a doubt the latter. After only a few clicks one has already created a cool melody. Everything gets even more interesting after clicking the "create drums" button. I guarantee that students will have a blast creating their own melodies and beats! Seaquence This can be considered a sequencer and a game at the same time. It seems like one is creating small underground creatures that have a specific language and this language can become a beat an/or rhythm. With all the different melodic, rhythmic and harmonic options one can choose from, the student will be entertained and has the option of creating music for hours on end. This is truly a unique way of introducing composition to one's students. WatsonMusic Links Thanks to this website you will never run out of online resources. Everything from entertaining musical games, loops and sequencers to music theory and ear training. This website is a "must know" for any music educator. When incorporating technology into one's lesson, this is the website one should consult for material. |
